On September 24th in hundreds of communities across the country and around the world, people on bicycles and on foot, in trains and kayaks, will gather at rallies to mark a major new effort to demonstrate one essential truth:
We need to move beyond fossil fuels if we are to create a sustainable future.
Are you ready to become part of the future? At 9am on Saturday, September 24th, people on bicycles will gather at Ever’man Natural Foods, 315 W. Garden Street, in Pensacola. We’ll enjoy a five-loop through the downtown area, with particular attention to some of the more sustainable destinations easily reachable without a car (such as the weekly Palafox Market). It will be a fun and easy ride suitable for people of all ages and abilities. Then it’s back to the Green Space at Ever’man for a rally and celebration of the bicycle.
Achieving a sustainable future will require more and better bicycle paths, places to secure bikes, education, and mutual respect between cyclists and motorists. It will require more reliance on public transportation, and less on automobiles. It will require more compact communities, planned with walking and biking in mind. It will require more thoughtful construction techniques and a concerted program of energy conservation.
It all starts with getting out, being seen, and enjoying our community without the consumption of fossil fuels.
Creating a sustainable future will require a new commitment by individuals and leaders in both the public and private sectors. Join Moving Planet Pensacola on the morning of September 24th. Be part of a new movement towards a better future for everyone who inhabits this beautiful planet!
